I AM, Pt 4
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14;6 KJV
This statement by Jesus is, in my opinion, one of the most powerful, decisive, and controversial he makes. Jesus makes it very clear. No one comes to the Father except through him. This is contrary to virtually every other “religion” that has ever existed. Every other “religion” requires the follower to do a list of things and depends on their efforts to obtain their version of paradise. Jesus has done everything, fulfilled every requirement, and paid the cost for his children to obtain eternal life in heaven with him. All that is required is belief on his name and what he did on the cross. “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved”. Acts 4:12
Jesus also declared that he is the truth. The word of God personified. Jesus embodied the truth. Truth of what? Of everything. This is a source of hostility among unbelievers, and sadly some who claim to believe. They say that each truth is equally true. That is just plain absurd. There cannot be two or more versions of truth. One is true and the other is not. Pilate posed the question when he was questioning Jesus. “What is truth?” he asked of Jesus. This question has been debated since time began and still is today. If one would only look to Christ, they would find it. As believers we should speak truth, walk in truth, and believe in the truth.
Satan perverted the truth in the garden of Eden and continues to do so this to this day as do so many other “spiritual leaders” in the world, even in what are supposed to be Christian churches. The church as a whole has waffled and wavered on the truth of scripture and lost their power to affect change in the world instead becoming just like the world. Jesus is the source of all truth. We find, in him, our purpose, the answers for any question, and the true source of happiness, joy, and contentment.
Jesus finally claims, again, the he is the life. I believe Jesus meant much more than just a physical life here. He is referring also to eternal life, the fulfilling life, and the abundant life that we can have as his child. The worst testimony a Christian can have is to walk around with a frown on their face all the time. Yes there are surely times when life becomes difficult and our day may not be going well but as believers, we ought to radiate that inner peace and joy that comes from our relationship with Jesus.
Take time each morning in prayer to ask the Father that the joy of the Lord will be plainly evident in how we go about our daily lives.
