I AM
John 6: 35-37 KJV
And Jesus said unto them, “I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not. All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.”
In these verses some incredible promises are made. Those who come to Jesus will be completely satisfied through him. Thirst, hunger will be obsolete. They will find their ultimate purpose for life in Jesus. Also the promise that not a single one will he fail to bring to himself and the promise to accept everyone who comes. Jesus is the I AM. Because of this he can do all the things he has promised.
"Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."
When Jesus refers to himself as the light of the world, he is claiming that He is the one and only true source of spiritual light and truth. Physical light is plainly evident and without it the world wouldn’t be able to function. The very first thing God created was light. Spiritual light is even more important because without Jesus coming into the world to reveal it to us, all mankind would be headed straight for hell with no hope. This light is freely available to us if we follow Jesus. Jesus also makes another promise in this verse. That those who follow him will not walk in darkness again, but have the light of life with them. This is a good testament as to whether someone is a follower of Christ. The believer is drawn consistently to the things of God, his word, prayer, his church, etc. The unbeliever does the opposite because the light exposes his sin. No one can come into the true light of Jesus unless enabled. We are assured of our salvation in this verse and this light will be reflected in our lives to the world. Once we have this light, we have it forever. Nothing can remove it. Is your light shining before the world? How bright is it? Matthew 5:16 tell us “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” So, get that line shining.
